Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Job Classification: Non-Exempt
 
Job Summary:
A Certified Nursing Assistant provides direct quality and restorative care to residents in an efficient, effective and dignified manner under the supervision of a Licensed Nurse. This individual is responsible for meeting the unique physical, emotional and medical needs of the resident population.  A Shea Family CNA will have the ability to interact with residents, family and staff in an appropriate manner. At least one year of full time experience as a nursing assistant in a long-term care facility preferred.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Must demonstrate satisfactory completions of any stated mandated training.
  • Applicant must meet or exceed minimum qualifications for each of the following background checks:  Criminal Background Investigation, Motor Vehicle Driving Record, Professional and Personal Reference Checks, and a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen.
  • Must have reliable transportation and fulfill assignments with reliability and punctuality.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Must be able to function in the home setting with minimal direct supervision and maintain satisfactory relationships with administrative staff, clients, and family members.
  • Must be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.

 
Essential Functions:
Provides a variety of client care duties including but not limited to:
 
 

  • Client cleanliness, grooming, nourishment, rest, activity, toileting/incontinence care in a manner that is conducive to a client's respect, comfort and safety.
  • Assists clients into and out of beds, chairs, rest room facilities, etc. requiring lifting and/or providing support for the client.
  • Familiar and competent in use of all necessary equipment (Hoyer, shower chair, commodes, walker, wheelchair, Gait Belt etc)
  • Performs specific procedures including taking temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed
  • Drapes residents for examinations and treatments, and remains with residents to perform such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights
  • Cleans, sterilizes, stores prepares and issues dressing packs, treatment trays, and other equipment and supplies.  Reports equipment and supply needs to supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Dusts and cleans residents’ rooms, changes bed linens, ensures resident has appropriate privacy, ventilation, lighting, and furniture arrangement.
  • Reports residents’ conditions, attitude, appearance, behavior, and physical ability to supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Records flow sheets and other reports on each resident.

  • Must attend 24 hours of in-service annually (including mandatory in-services).

Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, food carts, medical devices, and resident care devices including but not limited to IVs, Foley, catheters, etc and medical waste. Constant exposure to odors from residents, food, medications, and cleaning solutions. 
 
Position Physical Demands:
Requires constants ability to walk and move and assist residents with and without mechanical aids; Frequent lifting of residents (with human and mechanical assistance when necessary); constant use of hands to handle and feel objects, write notes, etc.; Excellent vision, depth perception; Good speech and hearing. Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 lbs.  Requires annual TB clearance. May be required to wear a back support device for specific duties.
